Investigator Farrah Turner was born April 24, 1982 in Florence, South Carolina to Katie M. Godwin and (the late) Dexter Turner. She was educated in Florence County School District #3, graduating from Lake City High School in 2000. After high school, Turner went on to complete her Bachelor’s Degree at Francis Marion University in 2005.

 

Her education journey did not stop there, in 2012 she earned a Master of Science in Public Safety, Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security from Capella University. Before earning her Master’s degree, however, Turner began her dutiful service to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on August 28, 2006.

 

In 2016, Turner was named “Investigator of the Year” for her impeccable service and professionalism. During her tenure with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Turner had a positive impact on the lives of many through her service in the Florence County community and schools, particularly Timmonsville High School where she worked as a School Resource Officer until October 3, 2018.

 

In the Spring of 2018, Turner had the great honor of becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. The organization’s purpose to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world perfectly aligned with Turner’s enduring commitment to serving others.

 

On October 3, 2018, Turner went to a home in Florence, South Carolina as part of her investigative duties and to further her mission of protecting children, members of our most vulnerable population, when she was shot upon arrival. Turner fought for her life for 19 days at McLeod Regional Medical Center and succumbed to her injuries on the evening of October 22, 2018.

 

Investigator Farrah Turner left behind a great legacy that can only be described as larger than life.
